La and the bunny hill

Today we skied the world class "Bruce Mound" in Neillsville, Wisconsin. Bruce Mound is a special place for my family. My brother, sister and I all learned to ski there using a good old fashioned rope tow or t-bar to get to the top of the bunny hill. The hill is about five miles from the home where my dad grew up. In fact, my grandfather co-founded the hill waaaay back in 1946. This year, Bruce Mound installed its first chairlift. We're in the big times now!

This was La's third year skiing. I would love to say that she was even better this year, but that would be a lie. She sort of stunk, in fact. But. The child has what I call Hard Headed Determination. She wouldn't let that hill get the best of her. In the end, after about 57 runs, resulting in about 147 wipeouts, she finally got the hang of it.

Here's a taste of what skiing with La is like:

And then there's this:

And then, finally, after what must have been hundreds of spills, it clicked.

She followed that up with four more flawless runs. Six wipeout-free rides down the hill. Then we went home. And now? We're on a rodent hunt INSIDE grandma and grandpa's house. More on that later ... goodnight!
